rocky- the musical

Sylvester Stallone is getting back in the ring with Rocky Balboa one more time -- but not as a star. The actor is co-producing "Rocky: The Musical," based on the Oscar-winning 1976 movie that launched his career.

The star appeared alongside his co-producers, the Ukranian boxing stars (and siblings) Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko, at a press event in Hamburg, Germany, where the musical is set to open in November 2012.

Inspired by the box office success of "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark," and surely not intimidated by the troubles that musical encountered along the way, Stallone and company are reframing the underdog boxing tale as a love story between Rocky and Adrian.

Tony-award winner Thomas Meehan ("The Producers") will write the book, while "Ragtime" lyricist Lynn Ahrens and composer Stephen Flaherty will handle the songs. "Rocky" purists shouldn't fear -- hits from the films, including "Gonna Fly Now" and "Eye of the Tiger," will be included in the show.

The 65-year-old Stallone won't be putting on the gloves this time, but he'll be active behind the scenes, along with producer Kevin King Templeton from Stallone's Rogue Marble production company and Johannes Mock O'Hara and Michael Hildebrandt of Stage Entertainment. The world champion Klitschko brothers will help train the performers in boxing maneuvers.

Pepsi Bottle Contest

When I was a kid, there was some big Pepsi contest. I forget the specifics, but the general prize value was something in the vicinity of 1.5 bazillion dollars. You had to spell out "PEPSI" with the letters on the underside of the bottle caps (like metal, need-a-key caps, to set the timeline for you).

There was a big Pepsi bottling plant in my town, and my friend Ryan's dad knew someone who worked there. He (Ryan's dad) made up chop and stack a reTARDed amount of firewood in exchange for driving us to the plant, where his buddy gave us a GARBAGE BAG full of bottle caps.
It took us like four hours to sort the caps. We had dozens of 'E's and 'I's, and hundreds of 'P's, but not one 's'. We probably had a thousand caps in that bag.

We rode our bikes back to the bottling plant the next day. The guy who hooked us up was in the parking lot when we got there. We had this sort of resigned grin on his face as he asked us how it had gone. We looked at the ground and asked if maybe we could get some more caps.
"Didn't find any 'S'es, didja?" We said no. He leaned in. "That's because there aren't any 'S'es. They don't MAKE 'S'es. Tell yer dad I said hey." And he walked away.
